The S.A.M Difference

At S.A.M, we believe every child can be great at math if they understand it.

Unlike other math enrichment programs, we teach children to understand what math concepts really mean, so that computations are no longer a jumble of numbers and symbols; they hold meaning and dictate numerical relationships. By developing students’ critical thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, we equip them with the tools to tackle math with total confidence.

Meet Our Center Director - Ms Natalya Afanasyeva

Natalya Afanasyeva is a mathematician with a lifelong passion for mathematics, children, and teaching. She believes that every child is capable of understanding and enjoying mathematics when concepts are presented in a clear, meaningful, and engaging way.

For Natalya, mathematics is much more than numbers, formulas, and correct answers. It is a powerful way of thinking that teaches children how to reason, recognize patterns, explore different possibilities, and approach challenges with confidence. She believes children should understand why a mathematical method works instead of simply memorizing steps.

Natalya combines her mathematical knowledge with patience, encouragement, and a genuine love of working with children. She recognizes that every child learns differently and is committed to creating a warm and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, exploring ideas, and trying new approaches.

Her goal is to help children overcome any fear of mathematics, become independent thinkers, and discover that learning math can be both meaningful and enjoyable. She wants every student to leave the centre feeling more capable, curious, and confident.

Natalya believes that the reasoning and problem-solving habits children develop through mathematics will support them not only in school but throughout their future education and everyday lives. Through S.A.M Singapore Math, she is proud to help children build strong mathematical foundations while nurturing their natural curiosity and love of learning.
