At S.A.M, we believe every child can be great at math if they understand it.
Unlike other math enrichment programs, we teach children to understand what math concepts really mean, so that computations are no longer a jumble of numbers and symbols; they hold meaning and dictate numerical relationships. By developing students’ critical thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, we equip them with the tools to tackle math with total confidence.
Lis is passionate about both teaching and mathematics. Originally from Indonesia, she spent over five years teaching international students in Jakarta, especially high schoolers. Her love of math began in her own school days, when she represented her school in competitions and discovered how much joy the subject brought her—a passion that later led her to study Computer Science.
After moving to the United States, Lis earned her Master’s degree in Computer Science and worked as a software engineer at a startup company, helping it grow until it was acquired by a publicly traded company.
When she became a parent, Lis felt drawn back to education. She chose to homeschool her daughter and found herself inspired again by teaching, especially in the areas of math and engineering. In her search for the best methods, she discovered the Singapore Math curriculum and was impressed by its depth and effectiveness. She now looks forward to teaching this approach not only to her daughter but also to families in the community, together with her teaching team.
