Mum, I Don’t Understand, I Can’t Do This

At Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M), we know children learn math better when they truly understand the concepts before learning the procedures. Our multi-award-winning S.A.M thinking math program has helped children not only to excel in math but also to develop thinking skills and problem-solving skills to prepare them to take on future challenges.

Established in 2010, S.A.M is the world’s largest Singapore Math enrichment program for children aged 4–12, with more than 200 centers in 20 countries and counting.

The S.A.M Singapore Math Program
  • Prepares your child to ace P1 through to PSLE

  • Developed by a team of former school teachers and textbook publishers

  • 100% aligned to Singapore MOE syllabus

  • Personalised learning plan to suit each individual child’s level and pace

  • Fun, hands-on activities to learn new concepts

  • Mastery worksheets to help children build a strong math foundation

  • Low teacher to student ratio

Why Choose S.A.M For Your Child?
  • Build a Strong Foundation and Excel in Math

Our students develop deep conceptual understanding and can explain concepts behind the procedures.

  • Acquire Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills

Our students can analyse, select the most appropriate heuristics and solve challenging problems efficiently.

  • Increase Confidence and Motivation

Our students enjoy learning and discovering math through the coaching approach with fun, hands-on activities.

  • Establish Independence and Self-Discipline

Our students develop good study habits that allow them to learn in class and at home.

The S.A.M Difference

At S.A.M, we believe every child can be great at math if they understand it.

Unlike other math enrichment programs, we teach children to understand what math concepts really mean, so that computations are no longer a jumble of numbers and symbols; they hold meaning and dictate numerical relationships. By developing students’ critical thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, we equip them with the tools to tackle math with total confidence.

What S.A.M Centers Teach
EMPHASIS:
  • Thinking math that emphasizes problem solving, conceptual learning before procedural learning
APPROACH:
  • Fun, hands-on activities using the CPA approach
  • Worksheet reinforcement with variation
  • Explicit teaching of problem-solving heuristics and process
TEACHING METHOD:
  • Coaching approach to facilitate understanding
What Most Other Centers Teach
EMPHASIS:
  • Traditional math that emphasizes procedural learning, memorization and repetition
APPROACH:
  • Drill and practice
TEACHING METHOD:
  • Tell and give knowledge to student
S.A.M Two-Pillared Approach

The S.A.M thinking math program complements Singapore schools' curriculum with a two-pillared approach of hands-on Classroom Engagement and Comprehensive Worksheet Reinforcement to develop interest and mastery in math.

Research has shown that children aged 12 and below learn better when they have close adult supervision and tactile activities. This is why we have designed our class size to be small and trainers have one-on-one time with each child.

We use the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach to help students understand an abstract subject such as math.

  • Concrete stage is the “doing” stage where children use physical objects such as manipulatives.
  • Pictorial stage is the “seeing” stage where children use drawings or pictures.
  • Abstract stage is the “symbolic” stage where children use abstract symbols to represent math.

Created by a team of former Singapore school teachers and textbook publishers, S.A.M worksheets’ tasks are comprehensive, varied and incrementally advanced, so that learning is kept challenging yet achievable, to keep children motivated.

Through guided practice in class and independent practice at home, children develop mastery in math, problem-solving and thinking skills, self-discipline and good study habits.

9 Levels Of Math Mastery Worksheets

We use a comprehensive diagnostic assessment to pinpoint the topics a child has mastered and the topics the child needs more support with. Then, we prescribed a personalized learning plan tailored to each child at their own skill level and pace, because no two children learn alike.

In addition, we use the coaching approach with probing questions and a lot of encouragement to help students explore, discover and build confidence towards math.
